Sacramento River Salmon Fishing Report- This is more of a story than a report. I just received these photos of an absolute monster King Salmon found dead in Battle Creek just below the Coleman fish hatchery. The fish was 4 1/4ft long and weighed 85lbs dead. It would've broken the state record if it would've been caught alive. They guessed it to have weighed in the 90's and the Sacramento River record is 88lbs. In fact it may have been the largest Salmon ever caught in the country, with that record at 97lbs!! I put the photos in the photo gallery for you to see. Fish on!!!

11-2-2008

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing opened this weekend. After a long wait, Salmon anglers were finally able to get out and fish for King Salmon. The weather was less than favorable on Saturday. I was unable to fish that day and from what I heard, I did not miss much. One fish out of close to forty boats at Hamilton City!! Not to mention it was cold, windy and raining. On Sunday I fished with a group from Santa Rosa and we had a great time. The weather was almost perfect (just a little windy) and we about had the river to ourselves. We did manage to land a beautiful 32lb male that was very bright. Early November is not typically known for being the prime time to fish for late fall king salmon so landing the one we did just added to a great day. As we get later into November and into December, the fishing for late fall Kings will typically improve. Take care and enjoy the short season we have!!

10-3-2008

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing sets to open November 1st in the Chico area. This time of year usually means low flows, crowds and temperatures. This year with the only stretch of the Sacramento River open in California to Salmon fishing being from Red Bluff to Knights Landing, no one knows what to expect. Fishing last year in December was very good. If we get the much needed rain this year, provided the river is not "blown out", the fishing should again prove to be outstanding. Watch conditions and reports for the latest news on Sacramento River King Salmon fishing. Take care.

7-30-08

Sacramento River Fishing reports good Striper fishing up and down the river right now. Pretty much anywhere you put in, there are some fish to be caught. Reports of some BIG 50lb+ fish being caught and released. Salmon season is set to open on November 1 and will run through January 1 and should be decent fishing provided the river is not over crowded and the weather cooperates. The only stretch to remain open is from Red Bluff Diversion Dam to Knights Landing.

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing- Sorry for the lack of reports. We have been awaiting the final decision for our 2008 Salmon season. The decision came down last week and they have shortened both the limits and season for us. They completely shut down the Feather and American Rivers for Salmon. The Sacramento River Salmon season will run from November 1st through December 31st and each person will be allowed 1 fish per day. The only section of the Sacramento River that can be fished for Salmon during this time is from Knights Landing north to the Red Bluff Diversion Dam. Stripers were up and down this year, most action was south of Grimes. The Shad are already showing up and should be in full swing shortly. Lake Oroville Bass fishing is consistent for Bass using reaction baits. The Coho fishing is also doing well either mooching or trolling. Thanks for checking in and take care.

12-9-2007

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing has actually been pretty good considering the way this season has been going. I have not been out as much as I would like, but have some reliable sources that are catching fish. We actually caught a nice 21 lb male last outing and missed another. We also saw a few fish rolling and a few more caught as well. Best bet has been a wrapped Flat Fish. Get out there before this next storm if possible because that may blow out the river until the end of the season. If the river does come back into shape before the 1st, it may actually be really good fishing until the end of the season. Take care.

10-14-07

Sacramento River Salmon fishing has remained unchanged. Sorry for the lack of reports, but there has not been much to talk about. It appears the late season push we had all hoped for is not developing. The river is extremely low right now. There is a good storm forecasted for next week and if it dumps as much rain as the weather man predicts, we might get enough water to get a good push of fish into the system. Right now there are fish in the system just not many. Now through the end of the season is when the big boys usually show up and more often than not, the biggest fish of the year are caught during this time. If you have the patience and are willing to put in the time, this is the time for the wall hanger!! Especially this year as the fish have been big overall!!

9-21-2007

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing has remained consistent. Consistently tough!! Again some days the fish seem to be biting better than others, but the bottom line is this is a year in which we are selling the possibility of catching huge fish over catching high numbers. The fish we are catching are on the average above 20lbs and many in the 30 and 40lb range! There were also some beautiful fresh fish that moved into the system this past week, some with scales! That is a great sign. Today we also landed another 6-7 ft Green Sturgeon which was quickly released and I was able to get a couple of photos of this one! I have had 2 cancellations for September and now have openings on the 26th and 27th. Call me if you're interested in either of those days. Call me at either (530) 898-8670 or (530) 592-8075. 26th has booked, 27th is only day left in September...

9-10-2007

Sacramento River Salmon fishing has remained tough this last week or so. Some days are better than others, but bottom line is tough fishing! There are promising reports from the bay once again and that could turn things around. There was a couple of days that there seemed to be lots of fish in the system, just not a lot of biters and there were also days where it was tough to find any large concentrations of fish? Guess that's why it's called fishing! I will be on the Klamath at the beginning of this week with veteran guide Frank Duarte who was kind enough to offer to show me the ropes in that fishery. I may be able to start offering trips on the Lower Klamath river should the Sacramento River not take off!! I will keep you all posted. I also will be offering drift boat trips for anglers on the upper Klamath in October. This is a quantity vs quality fishery. Large numbers of fish are caught here with ease, but the fish are nearing the end of the line so there is a mix of Salmon that can be eaten and fish that we simply need to be put back in the water!! The limit is 2 Adults, 1 Jack and 1 hatchery Steelhead which is a generous take for 1 day of fishing!!

9-1-01

Sacramento River Salmon Fishing continued to produce fish for anglers willing to put in the time and effort. Some days are producing better than others. The fish are still large and bright, just not a lot of them out there right now. Biggest fish of the week was a 47lb male. We did catch and release a 5-6 foot green Sturgeon as well! There are rumors of fish just south of Chico making their way through the system so there is promising news. Still some prime September and October dates available so call to book your trip. (530) 898-8670 or cell (530) 592-8075.
